Hit the Beach

Finding time to prioritize fitness when you're a working mom is a challenge, especially when you want to spend as much time with your kids as possible. "By the time I drive to the gym, work out, drive home, and shower, it's a two-hour ordeal," says Lindsey of The MotherChic. That's why this Mother's Day, she'd rather step outside, run around at the beach with her boys, and work out through play.

Plus, a little time in nature is an amazing way to connect on a deeper level, and that's what Mother's Day is all about, right? "Being active on this day (and everyday) is important, because we are all are happiest selves when we are outdoors, running around, and making memories together."

When kids come into the equation, sometimes the easiest way to get your daily dose of exercise is by simply sneaking it in whenever you can. That's Rachel of Pinteresting Plans' strategy — even on Mother's Day. "In order to hit the gym, I have to get a babysitter for my kids. I'd rather stay active together to build our relationship and show them the importance of healthy living," she says.

Outfitted in the right activewear, you can turn almost any daily activity into a fitness adventure. "Dance parties are the quickest way to change the mood in my house," says Rachel. "We also walk to a lot of destinations we could more easily drive to. It's over a mile for us to walk to Whole Foods, but we push the stroller there and use it to carry groceries home."

"This Mother's Day, my mother and I will be staying active with our three-mile morning walk," says Laticia of BluHazl. "We like to wear our CALIA fitness gear so we can twin, get some cardio in, and enjoy the start of a beautiful day celebrating the most important humans on this planet: Moms!"

These two have really bonded over staying fit and healthy, and this day is no exception. "I love when we are able to work out together because we get to challenge each other to be our best selves," Laticia says. "Working out with my mom always reminds me of what I admire most about her: her strength in staying the path. It's unparalleled."

Get Some Park Play

"We spend every Mother's Day at Central Park playing games, hiking around, scootering to our favorite park spots, and eating our favorite picnic," says Jenna of Lunchpails and Lipstick. As an added bonus, hanging out with her three little ones provides an even better workout than hitting the gym, she says. "Kids don't stop moving! I try and keep up with them and I never can."

If you're not sure how to get your kids involved, here's Jenna's advice: Set a "get up and move" goal for them each day. "Track progress and make an activity chart. Kids love to earn stickers and work toward goals. Most kids are also driven with a little friendly competition."

Walk It Out

One of the easiest ways to increase your activity level and get the chance to catch up at the same time is to head to your favorite scenic spot for a walk. For Hitha of Hitha on The Go and her mother, that's Central Park. "I treasure my Central Park walks because of my mom," says Hitha. "Growing up, she would drag me from the couch and make me walk with her in the evenings, walking to the end of our mile-long street and back. I would protest at first, but I'd always return feeling better — physically, emotionally, and mentally."

Most weekends, Hitha continues the ritual with her three-year-old son, but she still holds a special place for walks with her mom, especially on Mother's Day: "Our path may have changed, but the tradition remains the same."
